How Dems Lost the Messaging Battle on Judicial Filibusters

Democratic messaging is improving by leaps and bounds but it is still no match for the highly refined, coordinated message of the Right Wing Noise Machine. While the Dems came up with a slew of different ways to frame the debate on the use of Judicial Filibusters, the Repubs had it narrowed down to four words that they repeated so many times that you couldn't help but hear them repeating in your head like an annoying Britney Spears song.
On the issue of Judicial Filibusters Republicans said: UP OR DOWN VOTES!
And Democrats said: OVERTURNING 200 YEARS OF TRADITION IN THE SENATE! ABUSE OF POWER! CHECKS AND BALANCES! INTENT OF THE FOUNDERS AND THE CONSTITUTION!

Democratic unity and messaging is starting to gel for the first time in a decade but the biggest gap in our collective vision for America is our stance on national security. We have hawks and doves in our collective caucuses who pushed for war with Iraq and fought against it but one point should be made clear about our party, our first priority is protecting America not provoking our enemies. Distinctions need to be made, and soon, because this will be a much more pertinent issue in the mid-terms than Social Security by a longshot, and if we don't have our message together...well, we all know what happened in November.

I've been to two protests in my life, both were anti-war protests leading up to the Iraq invasion but for some reason they seemed to be about "freeing Mumia" and "legaizing it" as much as they were about the reprecussions of the illegal war. It seems that any sort protest on the left side of the political spectrum has the same problem with staying on message that the Democrats have had for so long. Yet when I saw "culturally-conservative" Terri Schiavo protestors in Florida they all seemed to be coordinated in that they all were working on the same cause and they all had unifying messages and images. Coincidentally the Schiavo protestors got more press than any of the larger war protestors got or even the protestors at the massive RNC debacle in New York. So how can progressives learn from these lunatics?
Why Political Correctness is Intelligence-Impaired

Being PC is one of those 90's trends that somehow got attached to the Clintons (namely Hillary RODHAM Clinton) and unfortunately people equate it with liberalism. This has to change. Liberals need to make it clear that we are not the 'busy-bodies' of America, but that's for another diary. Now, let me explain why political correctness as we know it is unnecessary and, in some instances, more offensive than honest talk.

Re: Hillary Speaks Out on the Nuclear Option!
I'm glad that Hillary spoke out against the Nuclear Option today but I can't help but find coincidence in the fact that she did so the day after the release of a high profile poll showing low public support for the manuever. Moves like these show how Hillary is constantly embodying the wishy-washy public-opinion-following demeanor of our former Minority Leader in the Senate and a certain Junior Senator from Massachusetts. Please tell her to stand up for the people that support her and forget about playing to the sensitivities of the people that hate her. She will never succeed in 08 if she refuses to speak her mind without backup from polling and data, if this is the case she will not only lose the democratic nomination or the presidency she will also damage the re-branding efforts of Democrats nationwide.

The more I learn about logo design for my band the more I realize why the KE04 stickers were so inferior to the BC04 stickers. Just as certain words and phrases can invoke mental frames, I believe that visual cues similarly exist in logos and typography. My quick analysis of the two logos is:
Bush Cheney '04: BOLD
Kerry Edwards '04 Logo: Flimsy

Last week I became upset by all the infighting between DNC-ers and DLC-ers and thought that if the rift grew we would continue to be lost as a party, it is now clear that patching up this rift is impossible and couter-productive. In my most meaningful and deepest words, Fuck the DLC.
